Not being able to stop the cracking, rapid deterioration should all be considered when making a driveway surface decision.

So you saw a paver project being done on HGTV last night and it’s got you thinking? Most likely the ideas that are floating through your head is it will be like putting tile down on the floor in your basement..right? Wrong..what you need to know and should heavily consider before tackling a concrete paver project is that the materials themselves are extremely heavy. Most pallets of pavers (approx 100 sqft) can weigh over 3000 pounds.

For example, a 500 sqft patio would involve lifting and carrying and carrying again, 15,000 pounds of concrete pavers, which does not include the 12,000 pounds of gravel and the 5000 pounds of bedding materials, needed to sit under the pavers. According to my calculations that weight is the equivalent to (2) contractor dump trucks carrying 2 African bush elephants in the back of them!

First I want to say, “Why would you even do that”. Everyday I drive through all types of housing developments and wonder why anyone would have concrete or asphalt for a driveway. I see all the cracking and staining in concrete and all the splitting and breaking of asphalt. There is continuous maintenance and eventually repair or replacement of your driveway.

The feeling that you get as you come home and pull into your driveway or sitting on your backyard patio that has been done with interlocking pavers is one of complete satisfaction.

You are the envy of your neighbors that are usually quick to ask “who did the work” and how quickly they can have theirs done.

For anyone that has ever purchased or sold a home, the first impressions are most important. These impressions are the ones that stay with us the longest. You pull up to a house and the first thing you notice is the cracked, stained driveway. People spend countless hours and expense manicuring their yards but do nothing to their driveway.

A Paver driveway will become the focal point of your property. A driveway should be a courtyard, not an ugly looking runway. We had a client actually purchase a smaller car to be able to show off more of their driveway… true story! Another client thought of renting his house because they spend all of their time on their outdoor paver patio... funny but true!
